The Sataf Nature Trail | Explore Israel

You don’t need to leave Jerusalem to do a great family hike. The Sataf is an awesome walking trail that you can do any time of year and is good for the whole family. There are agricultural terraces, streams and orchards along the way.

Here’s how you do the two hour circular trail: Start in the central parking lot, not the upper parking lot. Follow the signs to the spring, Ein Sataf. Although you can’t actually go into the pool, bring along a flashlight, because you can walk through the tunnel that feeds the spring.

After going through the village, a marked trail will take you down to the riverbed. On the opposite bank you can see the Monastery of St. John in the Desert, where it is believed that John the Baptist hid from King Herod.

At the bottom of the valley, the trail crosses a road and will take you to a small brook that leads to the spring of Ein Hindak. A few minutes later the trail takes you to a path that leads to Hadassah Hospital. Here you can either walk down into the village of Ein Kerem or catch a bus back to central Jerusalem.

"הסטף" - הוא מקום מקסים בלב הרי ירושלים, והוא אתר שנהדר לטייל בו בכל עונות השנה - טיול משפחתי קליל וכייפי. במקום "טראסות" [מדרגות - חקלאיות] משוחזרות, ושני מעיינות הנובעים במקום, ומשקים את הבוסתנים, שניטעו כאן. באתר, מגוון אפשרויות טיול, והמומלץ ביותר הוא, טיול מעגלי קליל של כשעתיים. המתחיל בחניה התיכונה -[לא בחניה העליונה] - מהחניה - צועדים עם השילוט - למעיין [עין סטף]. במפלס שמעל הבריכה, פעור פתח קטן המוביל למקור הנביעה. ניתן בעזרת פנסים להמשיך בזחילה. בתוך הניקבה, [זחילה של כ 5 ד']. מהבריכה יורדים במדרגות דרומה. בפיצול שבילים, פונים שמאלה, לכיוון "עין ביכורה", גם כאן בריכת אגירה. ומנהרה המובילה מים מהנביעה לבריכה, כדאי ומומלץ [שוב בעזרת פנסים] להכנס למחילה [אין צורך בזחילה], כשבקצה המחילה, יש מערה עם נטיפים וזקיפים. שמתוכה נובעים "מי מעיין ביכורה", וממנה זורמים לבריכה. מכאן עולה צפונה שביל [המסומן בירוק] - העובר בין בוסתנים וטרסות חקלאיות. בפיצול השבילים פונים שמאלה - [בשילוט המסומן של שביל ישראל] - ודרך הכפר הערבי הנטוש "סטף" - נחזור ל"עין סטף" - ומכאן באותה הדרך לחניון הרכב.
