Stalactites Cave (Soreq Cave)

The Soreq Stalactite Cave is also known as Avshalom Cave. This dripstone cave has stalactites, stalagmites and natural formations made by thousands of years of water dripping on rocks. The cave was discovered by chance in 1968 during a routine blasting of a quarry on Mount Ye'ela in the heart of the Judean hills.

The cave is located between Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh and has been open to the public since the 1970s. In recent years a special orange, blue and green lighting system has been installed to help preserve the stalactites and stalagmites from algae. Seeing them with this background lighting is a special experience. Although this is one of the smallest stalactite caves in the world, it is also one of the most beautiful. You can not go around the cave on your own, but there are official guides who will give you a guided tour and you do not have to register for the tour in advance, as there are tours every half hour.

מערת נטיפים, היא מערה "קארסטית" - חלל הנוצר מהמסה של סלעי גיר, ודולומיט, עקב חדירת מי גשמים, תהליך שבמשך מאות, ואלפי שנים, מותיר בחלל המערה "נטיפים" ו"זקיפים". מערת הנטיפים השוכנת בלב הרי יהודה, בין ירושלים לבית שמש, התגלתה במקרה, בעת פיצוץ שגרתי במחצבה סמוכה, הפיצוץ חשף את המערה המדהימה, ולקח מספר שנים עד שהוכשרה לביקור הקהל. לאחרונה, הותקנה במערה תאורה חדשה, והביקור בה, הוא חוויה יחודית. למרות שמערה זו היא מהקטנות בעולם, עושר הנטיפים והזקיפים בה, הוא במגוון שלא היה מבייש מערות גדולות ממנה בהרבה! לא ניתן לסייר במערה עצמאית. הביקור במערה, הוא, בסיור מודרך בלבד, מטעם האתר. אין צורך לתאם מראש את הביקור. מידי חצי שעה יוצא סיור מודרך.
